Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson is a beautiful play based off of the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, the woman who discovered the first method to accurately measure the distance of stars from Earth. The search for fundamental truths is the heart of this play, both about the universe and the lives we lead in it.
I developed a Scottish accent to play the fiery Williamina Flemming, a fellow computer in the Harvard Observatory. It was such a privilege to get to play such an incredible and intelligent woman, surrounded by so many women of the same caliber throughout the process. Traci Ledford directed this piece at Belmont University in my senior year and instilled so much pride into every aspect of the performance.
