Imagine if you will, a young woman on a journey to ye olde London Towne (St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin) to perform as if she were a detective in ye olden days (2023). You would have a pretty good mental image of my role in Ms. Holmes and Ms. Watson Apt. 2B by Kate Hamill as Joan Watson! I had the privilege of returning to St. Croix Festival Theatre to work with the incomparable Traci Ledford on this modern take on Sherlock Holmes.
This fast paced romp was a delight and a half to work on. Amid the physical antics, stage combat, and ridiculous situations my character was forced into, I found so much joy in playing Watson in all of her sarcasm wrapped emotional turmoil. The New York native is a relatable outsider in Kate Hamill’s Baker Street world. She wears the trauma of her former work as an ER doctor on her sleeve, and cares so deeply that it causes her physical pain.
