In the Spring of 2023, I spent a semester in London, England, at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts on their Classical Acting Short Course. It is a course focused on Shakespeare’s work taught through a conservatory style training program. In the mornings we took a variety of classes in various topics and techniques, and spent the afternoons digging into different works of Shakespeare. Our final project was to put up an abridged tragedy in two weeks – Macbeth!
We cast several actors in the parts of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, I played Banquo for the first two acts of the play, and Lady Macbeth in Act 3. This play has the highest stakes I had ever had to play before, a challenge that I took on with gusto. Additionally, the contrast of playing two very different characters in this story was interesting to explore.
My semester at LAMDA was an incredible period of growth for me, and solidified my confidence in pursuing a career in a creative and uncertain industry.
